Privacy Policy
How TripCalcs collects, uses, and protects your information — and what that means for you.
1 Overview
TripCalcs ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website at tripcalcs.com (the "Site"), a free suite of online calculators that helps drivers estimate fuel costs, split trip expenses, and plan road trip budgets.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you visit the Site, how we use it, who we share it with, and what rights and choices you have. Please read it carefully. By using TripCalcs, you agree to the practices described here.
Because TripCalcs participates in the Google AdSense advertising programme, we are required under Section 10 of the AdSense Online Terms of Service to maintain a clearly labelled, easily accessible privacy policy that provides comprehensive information about cookies and other data collection practices. This policy fulfils that requirement.
2 Information We Collect
TripCalcs collects two categories of information: information you provide directly, and information collected automatically when you visit the Site.
Information You Provide
Our calculator tools are designed to work without requiring any account or personal information. All calculator inputs — such as distance, fuel efficiency, fuel price, and passenger count — are processed locally in your browser and are not transmitted to or stored on our servers.
If you contact us via email or a contact form, we may retain your name, email address, and the content of your message in order to respond to your enquiry.
Information Collected Automatically
When you visit TripCalcs, certain information is collected automatically by our analytics tools and advertising partners. This may include:
- IP address — used to estimate your general geographic location (country or city level)
- Browser type and version
- Operating system
- Device type (desktop, tablet, or mobile)
- Pages visited and time spent on each page
- Referring URL — the page you visited before arriving at TripCalcs
- Date and time of your visit
- Cookies and similar tracking technologies placed by us and by third-party partners including Google
This information is collected through cookies, web beacons, and server log files. It does not directly identify you as an individual but may be combined with other data by our advertising partners to show you relevant ads.
3 How We Use Your Information
We use the information collected in the following ways:
- To operate and improve the Site — understanding which tools are most used helps us prioritise improvements
- To serve and measure advertising — through Google AdSense, which uses your browsing data to display relevant ads
- To analyse Site performance — using aggregated analytics data such as page views, session duration, and traffic sources
- To respond to enquiries — if you contact us, we use your email address to reply
- To comply with legal obligations — including applicable data protection laws
We do not sell your personal data to third parties. We do not use your calculator inputs for any purpose other than producing results within your browser session.
4 Google AdSense & Advertising
TripCalcs uses Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service operated by Google LLC. Google AdSense enables us to display advertisements on the Site and earn revenue that helps keep TripCalcs free to use.
Google AdSense disclosure — required by Google's programme policies:
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to TripCalcs and other websites on the internet.
Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to TripCalcs and other sites you have visited.
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of third-party vendor use of cookies for interest-based advertising by visiting aboutads.info.
How Google AdSense Uses Your Data
When you visit TripCalcs, Google may place one or more cookies on your browser. These cookies allow Google to recognise your browser on future visits to TripCalcs and other websites that participate in the Google advertising network. Google uses the information gathered through these cookies to:
- Show you advertisements that are relevant to your interests
- Limit the number of times you see the same advertisement
- Measure the effectiveness of advertising campaigns
- Compile aggregate reports on ad activity for website operators
Google may also use web beacons (small invisible images) in connection with its advertising cookies to track how ads are displayed and interacted with.
Google's Privacy Policy
Google's use of your data in connection with AdSense is governed by Google's Privacy Policy. TripCalcs does not control how Google uses this data once it is collected by Google's advertising technology.
Non-Personalised Ads
Visitors who have opted out of personalised advertising, or whose browser signals indicate a preference for non-personalised ads, may still see contextual advertisements on TripCalcs. These ads are based on the content of the page being viewed rather than your browsing history.
5 Cookies
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your browser or device when you visit. Cookies serve a range of purposes, from keeping you signed in to measuring how a site is used.
TripCalcs uses cookies placed by us and by third-party services operating on the Site. The main categories of cookies in use are:
| Cookie Type | Purpose | Placed By | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | Required for basic site functionality | TripCalcs | Session |
| Analytics | Measures traffic and user behaviour in aggregate | Google Analytics | Up to 2 years |
| Advertising | Serves and personalises Google AdSense ads based on browsing history | Google AdSense | Up to 13 months |
| Preference | Remembers your settings (e.g. unit preference: MPG vs km/L) | TripCalcs | 30 days |
Managing Cookies
You can control and manage cookies in several ways:
- Browser settings: All major browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Consult your browser's help documentation for instructions. Note that blocking certain cookies may affect the functionality of TripCalcs and other websites.

You may withdraw your consent at any time by managing your browser settings or using the opt-out tools listed above.
6 Third-Party Services
TripCalcs uses the following third-party services, each of which may collect data from visitors in accordance with their own privacy policies:
- Google AdSense (Google LLC) — advertising and ad personalisation. Privacy Policy · Opt out

TripCalcs does not control how these third parties collect or use your data. We encourage you to review each third party's privacy policy before using the Site if you have concerns about data collection.
7 Data Sharing & Disclosure
TripCalcs does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for their own marketing purposes.
We may disclose information in the following limited circumstances:
- With advertising and analytics partners — as described in Sections 4, 5, and 6 of this policy, third-party services operating on the Site collect data through cookies and similar technologies in accordance with their own privacy policies
- To comply with legal obligations — if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority
- To protect rights and safety — where necessary to investigate potential violations of our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TripCalcs, our users, or others
- In connection with a business transfer — if TripCalcs is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to standard confidentiality obligations
8 Data Retention
TripCalcs does not store calculator inputs. All calculations run in your browser and no results are sent to or retained by our servers.
If you contact us by email, your message and contact details are retained for as long as necessary to resolve your enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards, typically no longer than 12 months.
Analytics data collected by Google Analytics is retained for 26 months in accordance with our Google Analytics data retention settings.
Data collected by Google AdSense is governed by Google's own retention policies, which you can review at policies.google.com/technologies/retention.
